Didn’t this used to be more relaxing?

My husband and I are simple people.  We like to go out to eat.  We like to browse in bookstores.  We like to talk to each other while we do these things.

Since the kids arrived, it’s just not that simple anymore.

We’re not a family that uses babysitters.  We have friends we swap babysitting with when needed, and grandparents for medical emergencies.  But for dates, we’d rather just make them family fun time.  It all works out perfectly … until it doesn’t.

We haven’t had major disasters like many moms have, but we’ve come to the realization that until Widget will eat something besides mac and cheese or chicken fingers, and Bear stops christening each table with salt and pepper (not to mention grabbing those little packets of sugar conveniently stacked up next to his chubby little elbows), it just won’t be as relaxing as it used to be.

That’s okay.

Having them with us is SO worth it.
